Hello Dreamers,
No, this is not a sponsored post. I'm not trying to sell you Grammerly. Let me get that out of the way before I go on. Yes, it's been too long since I posted.
So, for those not in the know, Grammarly is a service you can use to spellcheck your writing. Now, unlike the basic bitch spellcheck that comes with your standard word processor, Grammerly can also suggest alternate spellings and word choices. If you're willing to pay for it, it can even give suggestions on things like tone. Heck, there is an AI component that can rewrite your work if needed.
Now, before you say, "Great, sign me up!" I want to point out an obvious problem I find with Grammarly.
It's stupid.
Relying on it with your brain off, like with almost anything AI, will get you in trouble. You will write things you didn't intend because words, especially in English, words tend to have multiple meanings. Course, ifs one thing for it to tell me 'no no, it eons not aeons. I thought you wanted Canadian spelling.' Or get confused with magic vs magick.
Here is an egregious example. Given this sentence:
Abigale came to inside of her car
Context is that she passed out, and now is in a car. Grammarly thinks I made a mistake and thinks the sentence would be better thus:
Abigale came inside her car
Ok, the WIP I have that's a romance between a young woman and a Great Old One isn't that much of a fuckfest.
Grammarly is designed more for business writing. If you need to convince a client that the order is coming, or your boss that the deadline is too soon, Grammarly can help with providing the correct set of spell words to get what you want. When it comes to creative writing? While it's smarter than a basic bitch spellcheck, it's still too stupid.
Grammarly ain't replacing beta reads and editors anytime soon.
Needed to air that off my chest. Keep dreaming!
I’m enjoying the time I spend reading here in your place. 😎
I'm familiar with it. I wrote in Quara for a spell then I feel like I put it all out there and did not want to repeat myself. When I started I was typing my thoughts and putting it out there. There was an Australian writer Judy Rofe and she told me about grammarly to help with my spelling. She inspired me to try harder. I was more focused on the art of writing commiting thought to screen.I have my own thing in there called the drumkit spot. I check on it from time to time. My experience with grammar ly took me more time then before I started using it. I just had to slow down and read what…
