How I got my Clips for my Best of Video

Some of you reading might be familiar with my Twitch account, and its associated YouTube account under the monicer of Mikodite Yvette. Some might(not) be wondering how I vetted the clips from the Best of video I posted on YouTube.

How did I pick the clips to use? it's based on YouTube Shorts Data. Every clip in the video below has been a YouTube short.

"But, isn't the orientation of a YT short vertical to accommodate smartphones and compete with TikTok? All the clips in that montage are horizontal!"

Yes. That is right. That is because the version of the clips used was the original clip right off of Twitch. There were 16 clips in all. Does that mean that I went onto Twitch and downloaded 16 clips, one at a time? Well, one could do that, but who has time for that?

The script was originally written with the intent of getting the data on the YouTube shorts for data analysis purposes, mostly to see what works and what doesn't to get maximum views on YouTube Shorts. I will have that, and post it later, but right now I realized that the data from it could be used to get the original version of the clip off of Twitch.

Instructions on getting API keys and tokens are here: YouTube Twitch

Starting with youtube_scrape.py. That file first gets a list of every video ever uploaded to the channel. Next, it gets the statistics for each video in the list and records it in a csv file for later use. Then it downloads all videos that have 1000 views or more - this is meant to be training data for a model later on.

Next twitch_scrape.py. This gets a list of every clip on my Twitch channel, stats and all, and puts that list in a CSV for later.

Lastly, get_original_clips.py. This loads the CSVs made from the last two scripts. I used the default name for the shorts when exporting from Twitch, which is "<clip title> | mikodite_yvette from #Twitch" so all I had to do was join the two tables by video title. Last, but not least, downloaded every clip from Twitch that is associated with a YouTube short that had at least 1000 views.

The scripts described only got the footage I wanted. I still had to load them into Kdenlive and spend time doing basic editing and graphic design. The result is as below. Even through the year with a mere 16 clips, it's impressive to see how the channel has evolved.

Thank you for reading!
