Tariffs Affect on Space Whale Dreams

Hello Dreamers,

1, 2 ,3 ,4, how do you declare a trade war?

Bow, curtsy, do the twist, begin!

All joking aside, it has come to my attention that the president-elect, who will be president tomorrow, wants a 25% tariff on all goods from Canada. I normally don't talk about politics as I do not know enough to have an opinion worth broadcasting, course, if this tariff threat comes to fruition, its a punch I need to roll with.

Thought I outline how this will affect me, technically a business owner, and you the possible purchaser of my books.

On Amazon

If you buy a physical copy of my book via Amazon, there won't be a direct tariff on that. The books, both paperback and hardcover, are printed in the United States for American customers.

However, the materials for the printing the book, like paper and ink, might be imported from elsewhere. Lets be frank: Amazon ain't going to eat that. So, 2 things will likely happen:

  1. The wholesale cost to print the book will go up.

  2. My cut of the royalties will be reduced

These things will, sadly, inflate the price.

Some good news: if you bought the ebook version via Kindle, that will be unaffected. Last I checked, tariffs only effect physical goods, and not digital ones. Ditto for the audiobook version on Audible.

Limited Edition Orders

I'm not going to do a preorder campaign. Why? If you want a limited edition with my bookplate and signature on it, it will cost you.

You see, for me to put that extra, manual, ink, on your book, I need to order author copies shipped directly to me. So, for hardcovers, that means ordering from the states. While paperbacks are printed in Canada for Canadian customers, there is still the question of, wait for it, shipping it into the United States.

Whispers of the Abyss was about $20-$25 CAD to ship a hardcover into the US via Canada Post, aka the cheapest possible option. Now, add another $7.50 CAD for a $30 book.

Live Events

No direct effects. Well, other than no hardcover copies from Amazon KDP. Was looking at Toronto Print House for the next set of hardcovers anyways before the tariff threat.

Author copies are printed in Canada - I'm in Canada. So the wholesale cost won't go up there. As for merch, well, it depends. Bookmarks, posters, cards, and stickers are all printed by Vistaprint, which is a Canadian company.

Now, even printed and sold in Canada, there might still be an effect. After all, you think Canada is just going to take this laying down? The federal government has already made it clear that they will impose retaliatory tariffs of their own.

Website

Tariffs only effect physical products. Nothing digital is getting this glorified sale's tax. So, when I start posting the ebook miniseries, copies of the books, including audiobooks, on this site, they will not be effected. Services, to my knowledge are not effected either. Looking at you, Amazon, Wix.

If I ever start selling physical merch or books, it will apply.

Blog is still free to read.

There is the lowdown to the best of my knowledge. 2025 is going to be interesting indeed.

I'm thinking of getting your ebook on my trusty IPad. This will be another first for me. I dedicate all my free time to playing drums or video gaming. I don't even have a PC. The coolest thing I have is my Mac book. I don't spend much time with it. I don't have any social media, so computers are paper weights to me. I'm not sure if I let you know about the book that I would highly recommend to you. You mentioned trying to read other authors and watch some movies. It's called "A scanner darkly". This, like many of his books, was turned into movies, but it's rare when a reader says that the film was jus…

I have autism with a dash of adhd. This discovery is only a few years old. I lived most of my life not knowing but feeling like I was alone it has been a journey to find like-minded people to speak to about the things I care about. My world has always been small, and I think I'm most happy when im alone.I bring it up because I believe in fairness, kindness, empathy, and the freedom to live without prejudice. I'm strongly against people and Governments that subjugate their people. I can clearly see all of the injustice happening. Being aware of it makes it traumatizing as I witness freedoms being stripped from anyone's life. So I hope that helps…

I'm in Florida and majority of people have no idea what is coming. I'm not spending anything more then I need to live. I'm not buying non essential goods and services. I'm not the only one. Because of private equity and ceo pay standards we are watching companies failing. No one is buying cars or homes. No big ticket items are economy is frozen until we gat closer to the time of unraveling. Our next convicted president is only going to help himself and anyone who helped get him elected. It's going to be 4 years of intensive criminality that the US may never recover from. I fear for those struggling for life and freedom from invading Russian and …

Even megacorps don't like the coming trade war. It only benefits people who want to crash the system. Canada is not for Sale.
