Works In Progress

Hello Dreamers,

It's been a while since I wrote a post, mostly because I don't know what to write. I guess I can state my current WIPs and how it's going.

Summoning the Abyss (title not yet finalized)

My Nanowrimo story from last November. The first draft of the manuscript is completed and I'm just doing manual edits to make sure things make sense, are in the right order, and the details are consistent. Once this is done it will then be beta read, more edits, and a professional editor will be hired.

In short, the story is a 'Lovecraftian Romance,' following a lonely librarian who finds a tome promising to summon a primordial deity to trap inside. From its prison, it whispers its dreams and its wants. She falls in love with it - or is seduced, depending on POV.

A more adult work than Champion of Seasons, with graphical depictions of violence and sex. It meant to horrify more than anything. I am aiming to have the final draft on Amazon by July. The project word count is just below 50000 words at the time of write - mostly due to edits taking words away as I met the target that year.

I also plan to create supplementary art for this story. One of the tasks I'm doing while editing it is looking for descriptions of symbols to later recreate in GIMP on an art stream. What would Lovecraft horror be without creepy symbols?

Quantum Songstress

I asked ChatGPT one day to give me an outline for a story with sci-fi and fantasy elements. The best idea it had was about an AI roaming the web in a cyberpunk dystopia playing songs with magic in them. So I took the idea and ran with it - following a wage slave in the tech sector as she tries to figure out who, or what the entity known simply as 'Songstress' is. All while its music intrudes upon everyone, and has some dire ramifications.

I'm still drafting this story. I hope to complete draft one by the end of March and start the edits for it then. I'm aiming for it to be about 50000 words, like Summoning the Abyss. An adult story that, while not as graphic as Summoning the Abyss will be, still deals with mature themes concerning bigotry, poverty, how technology warps our sense of reality, and what happens when capitalism goes unregulated.

AI Doing Mario

A shift from literature. This is me trying to train an AI to play Super Mario Bros for the NES. It is a project involving many working parts, from neural networks to automation. To Nintendo's chagrin, an emulator does have to be used. At least is an old game that's long made its money.

At the moment I'm struggling with getting the simulated keyboard to send commands to the emulator. Solving that will have me look at things like how to store controller states, and how to get the game's state. Iterations of the AI will be broadcast to Twitch once such is made available.

LOZ: TOTK

Ok, this last one isn't serious. At the time of write, I am 6 korok seeds away from having all of them. Once I have them, it will be the last moments of photos followed by my riding all the dragons in the game from start to end points - this might include a hypothetical one I heard exists at the end game. Of course, after that, I will punch Vecna(lol tell me I'm wrong!) and end the game once and for all.

Wow, Shannon, you're definitely going to be spending time doing what you love. That's a gift for anyone brave enough to try. All of your projects sound great, and I'm looking forward to reading them.
